Friday @ Lunch: Hoover Turkey Trot reminder, donations and volunteers

Hoover Middle School Community,
small-turkey Reminder: The Hoover Turkey Trot event is this Friday (Nov 18) at lunch time.
small-turkey Donations: All students should have brought home flyers and fundraiser envelopes. A copy of the flyer is attached. Students should bring their donations in the envelopes to the event on Friday, or use the online payment option below.  Volunteers will collect the donations and distribute the prizes.  Thanks for supporting Hoover Middle School students!

Requesting used uniforms. Please donate your gently used school uniforms at the PTSA meeting. The PTSA is collecting these uniforms and will make them available to Hoover families at a low price. A great way to clean out your closet, and help our school.
Box Tops. The PTSA meeting is also a convenient time to drop off your Box Tops. This is another easy way to contribute — each Box Tops earns the PTSA 10 cents. Box Tops can also be dropped off anytime in the collection box in the main office. More info on Box Tops here: www.btfe.com

Donation request: Plastic Bins & Water for School emergency kits

Hoover Middle School is striving to improve their school wide emergency preparedness. As they continue to implement their safety plan, the school is in need of new or used clear 12 gallon (48 quart) or larger tote bins with lids and new sealed 1 gallon jugs of water. Please deliver your donations before October 1st.

If you’d like to participate, items can be dropped off at the office at Hoover (1635 Park Ave) during school hours, 7:30am-3:30pm. Or bring your items to the next Hoover Middle School PTSA meeting Wednesday September 21st @ 7PM in the Library.

A Message From Our Principal:

Woo hoo, we had a great start to the Hoover school year! Thanks for being patient and supporting us as we balance classrooms and make sure every student is in the right “seat”. Also we have the Admin welcome video (showed to all students) for your viewing, here’s the link: https://youtu.be/kzXPyv57y0k.

FYI coming in September we will be starting our Blue/White modified block scheduling days. More information to follow but on September 7th your son/daughter will be meeting in periods 1, 3, 5. And on September 8th they will meet periods 2,4,6. This schedule will allow for more comprehensive labs, exciting projects and a deeper dive into the curriculum. Thanks again for your contributions to a great week.

Important back to school dates

We hope you are all having a great summer.  The 2016-20-17 school year starts soon at Hoover Middle School.  Mark your Calendar, here are some important upcoming “back to school” August  events.

  • August 3 & 4 from 8:30am-3pm – Summer Bridges for incoming 6th grade students.  Students get familiar with our campus and staffers. Informational presentation for parents. Welcome to Hoover!
  • Monday, August 8th, 8am-1pm, 6th grade schedule pickup
  • Tuesday, August 9th, 8am-1pm, 7th grade schedule pickup
  • Wednesday, August 10th, 8am-1pm, 8th grade schedule pickup
  • Wednesday, August 17th, 1st day of school!
  • Wednesday, August 24th, 7pm, PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) meeting. Please join us! Note: Tentative date, please check back.
  • Thursday, September 1, 5PM, Fiesta Con Las Familias. Games, food and performances to celebrate the new school year.

The PTSA is looking forward to meeting up with you at these events!

Hoover Middle School’s Arts on the Green Open House is this Saturday, April 30, 9AM to Noon. Come see student projects, enjoy performances, support your school and have fun!

PTSA & Performing Arts Boosters will be hosting games & cake walk. There will be drinks, snacks, nachos($2), T-shirts and jackets for sale.

PTSA Raffle & Silent-Auction Fundraiser

Please stop by the raffle and silent-auction table while you are at the Arts on the Green Open House this Saturday morning.  Raffle tickets are only $1 each. Low starting bid prices for silent auction.  All proceeds will be used by the PTSA to support students at Hoover Middle school.

Seeking raffle/auction item donations for Arts on the Green

Arts on the Green is an important annual open house tradition at Hoover.  This year Arts on the Green will be on Saturday, April 30th.  The PTSA will again host a silent auction and raffle fundraiser during the Arts on the Green event.  The PTSA is seeking donations of items or services for the auction & raffle. A few example of previous auction & raffle items included a wine, chocolates, restaurant gift certificates, salon gift certificates, coffee shop gift certificates, spa party, personal training sessions, tutoring sessions, sports tickets, etc.

Hoover PTSA Elections Meeting Wednesday @ 7PM (April 20)

Note: PTSA meeting is at 7PM, but please consider coming early and attending the 6PM meeting of the Performing Arts Boosters.

Please join us at the PTSA General Meeting tonight on Wednesday, April 20th.

The PTSA general meetings are held in the Media Center (Library) in the main Hoover building. The meetings start at 7:00PM.  Please join us to hear what is going on at Hoover Middle School and make a difference!

Agenda to include:

  • Election of next year’s board.  At the last meeting a (full!) slate of candidates was submitted by the nominating committee, but nominations can also be made at the elections meeting.
  • Arts on the Green: Update and planning.
